Huntsville Community Choir - Membership

Lift Your Voice & Spirit: Become a Part of Our Community Choir Family!

From the Director

Our members are amateurs in the truest sense of the word; they love to sing.  They come from all walks of life, with varied musical tastes and experiences.  Some have been involved in choirs and music-making for years and years, and many others are “first-timers”.  Many of our members are just beginning to read music, and some have studied music at a high level.

There is no minimum level of music-reading or vocal training required for full membership in the choir — everyone is welcome, and everyone is given the opportunity to develop their skills at their own pace, and to have a lot of fun doing it.  There is no audition that you have to pass!

General Membership Information

Joining the Huntsville Community Choir (HCC) is a wonderful way to connect with fellow music lovers, improve your singing, and perform in community concerts. As a member, you’ll enjoy a sense of camaraderie, expand your musical skills, and contribute to Huntsville’s vibrant cultural scene.

No audition or formal vocal training is required; simply enjoy singing. The Choir sings four-part harmony in four voices: soprano, alto, tenor and bass, also known as SATB. If you’re not sure what voice part you sing, our director will gladly assist in determining an appropriate placement.

Rehearsals

All rehearsals are held in the sanctuary of Trinity United Church, Huntsville from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday.  Dates and times may vary if there is a need for extra rehearsals.  Please use the entrance on West St. and proceed directly to the sanctuary.  Note that other activities will be going on at the church, so consider the time needed to find parking.

Concert Attire

Members will assume the cost of appropriate concert attire.

  • For Women – Plain black, long or ¾ sleeve top, black slacks (ankle length) or straight, black skirt (knee length or longer).  Black shoes.

  • For men – Plain, black long-sleeved shirt with collar and black slacks.  Black dress shoes and socks.

Concerts

Two or three ticketed performances are planned for the year.  Our annual Christmas concert is usually in late November or early December.  Normally, one performance is Friday evening with a second performance on Saturday afternoon.  Occasionally, two performances are held on one day, if venue scheduling is a problem. A mid-winter concert may be held in March.  The spring concert is generally in May or early June.  Other non-ticketed, mini-concerts may be held in the local area as the opportunity arises.  These include performances at retirement homes, club meetings, nursing homes, community events, etc.

Health Protocol

Each person is responsible for self-assessing their health and suitability for attending rehearsals. Singing masks are available for purchase from the Choir if anyone feels the need to take precautions

  • I have always loved to sing but have a very limited background in music other than school and church choirs. I have learned so much from Louis as our Director. It is a great way to get through our long winters and to meet new people.

    Karen C.

  • I like the Huntsville Community Choir because the music is both interesting and beautiful; and sometimes challenging.

    Bette T

  • Going to weekly choir practices, we had time to let go of our day-to-day cares and focus on listening and improving. We made new friends, we exercised our lungs and minds, and we prepared to perform in concerts and bring beautiful music to the Huntsville ccommunity.

    Defina O.

  • I attend choir week after week for the nourishment it provides my mind and soul, not to mention the fun-loving camaraderie and the buzz of positivity. The icing on the cake is performing our beautiful songs, lovingly rehearsed for our community.

    Eva B.
